ESKIMO DISCO
Robots & Laptop Dancers Make Good Friends (54 Records/ Creative Vibes)A massive wave of electro music has well and truly saturated the pool of popular young artists. Armed with synthesiser keyboards, electronic drum machines and a laptop or two, acts from Cut Copy and Digitalism through to LCD Soundsystem and the Presets are mixing indie rock vocals with robotic melodies and dance beats.Britain's Eskimo Disco are not the newest electro rock sensation but they are one of the few who do it well. Take Air Guitar, for instance, a pop-disco tongue-in-cheek number that places a light singalong chorus alongside Commodore 64 beats and the best electronic guitar solos you'll hear this year.On She Plays Her Game, the passionate vocals and emotionally charged melodies would sit comfortably beside Duran Duran and Soft Cell. It's very now and very danceable but it'll be terribly out of date by next year.
